Well, I guess it’s time to cash in.

I quite enjoyed Prometheus

I just saw it a few hours ago, and I think it was a beautiful film (for one) and extremely well handled. Considering it’s a science fiction film trying to break the mold of a genre that is generally kept close to the heart of a fanbase that doesn’t regularly like to share for fear of criticism, it did well what Star Trek (2009) did: it made the genre a little more accessible.

It centered around a few key characters and some untold, prequel-type elements, left enough room for imagination, gave the audience time to figure a few things out on their own - despite foreknowledge or not - and, I believe kept the audience rapt.

Though it doesn’t quite conquer a foe in the way Star Trek did, at least not traditionally, it sets a foundation for both pre-existing films, and possibly sequels to come. It promises background, relatability, the vague sense of plausibility for those who look for those sort of things, and enough intrigue to keep the audience member on the edge of their seat.

All in all, I enjoyed it. I’ll write a real, in-depth analysis and a few fan-girlish thoughts after I’ve sat a bit more on it.
